FEARLESS PSYCHOLOGICAL SCIENCE
Putting ‘Should’ into ‘Science’

Shall we cower on the shoulders of giants, lest we fall? Or shall we stand proudly,
stretching to see just a bit farther?

A professional blog about topical issues in the science of psychology. Topics include, but are not limited to: psychology, scientific methodology, replication and reproducibility, statistics, helpful computer programs for psychological science, and decision research.

Posts on this blog constitute my opinions and viewpoints, and does not necessarily represent the opinions of my employer, my colleagues, or anyone else associated with me. Also be aware that my own position on topics is subject to change in the face of new data and/or sound logical argument. My views also may be more nuanced than a particular line/sentence/paragraph/blog post implies. Disagreement is welcome and encouraged--but keep it relevant, well-reasoned, and civil (no trolling!) or your comment may be deleted at my sole discretion.

Examples
OK: "I think you're wrong because A."
OK: "But other research, such as B, contradicts this."
OK: "Your argument is logically unsound. The assumption of C does not hold."
OK: "There is no logical or factual basis for Claim D."
Not OK: "You don't have credentials in X, therefore you can't be trusted." or "You do work in X, therefore you can't be trusted." Stick to the claims and/or the evidence, not ad hominem attacks.
Not OK: "Hey [insert preferred insult here: jerk/idiot/moron/imbecile/dumbass, etc.], you're wrong."
Not OK: Profanity-filled rants, irrelevant ads, bigotry of any kind.

Cookies and privacy:
Though this blog has enabled a secure 'https' connection, please be aware that Google (owner of the .blogspot.com domain) may collect your browsing data through small lines of code called cookies that can be deposited on your computer. If you're worried about this practice, you should use 'InPrivate Browsing' all the time. See this article for how to make that happen. If you're really worried about it, you can use a VPN and use InPrivate Browsing all the time.

I, however, track and record nothing. I'm interested in starting debates focused on improving science, not in tracking what people do or selling your private information.
